History of the Project

This project grew from a multi-year effort to keep and share the history of women in computing. Katy Dickinson and Dr Susan H. Rodger worked to build a list of 300+ notable women in computing (bit.ly/NotableW).

Jessica Dickinson Goodman saw the potential to expand that list's reach and turned it a deck of playing cards that sold out at the 2014 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, then raised 500% of its goal on Kickstarter.

Through the generosity of the Backers on Kickstarter, over 500 decks went to educators around the world who are working to inspire women and girls to consider or continue careers in computing. Decks are sold at cost and all files are downloadable under CC-BY-NC-SA.

To celebrate my finishing writing my Master's thesis, John surprised me with a large tapestry from the Wissa Wassef Art Center, Giza, Egypt. Normally for a big family celebration, we would go out to dinner or maybe on a trip, but during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, that is not possible. Continue reading →

Tonight is my 21st meeting serving as on the San José Human Services Commission and my 13th meeting Chairing that commission, so I thought I would do a quick round-up of what we’ve done since I joined in January 2018. I’m making this post for two reasons. One, is I’m doing my annual evaluation of...
